Following the success of the Study Days held at the end of 2024, I’m pleased to announce a Study Group will be taking place at Pusey House Oxford on the same theme of Early Egyptian Christianity.
For the first five centuries AD, Egypt was a cultural & theological hotspot, home to notable figures such as St Athanasius and St Cyril of Alexandria as well as the less well-known Clement of Alexandria and the (fabulous) Origen.
Over a series of eight Monday night sessions (20th Jan – 10th March 2025) at Pusey House, Oxford we’ll cover these important Eastern Fathers of the Church, spending two evenings on each person.
The first session each time will primarily provide a very brief introduction to the life, work & contribution of the person whilst the second session will involve discussion using extracts from some of their writings.
In the process we’ll be touching upon the key doctrines of the Trinity and Christology (which were classically shaped in this period) as well as helping you figure out whether you might be an Arian, Nestorian, Docetist or Adoptionist (and why that matters!).
All sessions are FREE! As always, no previous knowledge of history or theology is assumed. For more information, and to book, use the links below…
